Punjab Smog Crisis: Government Interventions and Public Health Measures
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has officially declared smog a calamity across the province, taking strict actions to mitigate its severe effects on public health. These emergency measures include a ban on burning crop residues, use of substandard fuels, and operation of industries without emission controls, all of which are key contributors to Punjab’s worsening Air Quality Index (AQI). In Lahore, one of the most affected areas, the PDMA has introduced a "green lockdown" policy targeting pollution hotspots. This lockdown covers prominent roads, including Davis Road, Egerton Road, and Empress Road, where construction, certain commercial activities, and dry sweeping are temporarily banned to reduce particulate matter.
